Start your own book club at work
LABS Camden members, MVF, were recently named second in The Sunday Times’ Best Companies to Work For! Built on the belief that ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast’, MVF know that great businesses are powered by happy colleagues who feel invested in the company they work for.
Their focus on culture has paid serious dividends, and one of the ways they cultivate fun is via their monthly book club! Getting started couldn’t be easier: simply select an organiser, choose a book and invite people to join over snacks and drinks. Brownie points if you can provide a book allowance for your team, too.
Volunteer together in the office
Volunteering and supporting a charity isn’t just good for the soul. It’s also a great way for your team to bond! Reach Out, a charity that encourages working people to mentor kids, are always looking for companies to get on board and share their skills. Other charitable ideas include gardening, lending your time to a soup kitchen or hosting an event together in honour of your chosen charity. Give your team something to feel proud of.
Plan a conversation dinner with work colleagues
Fearful of forced conversation in the absence of alcohol? Why not get creative! Organise a weekly ‘conversation’ lunch or dinner where your team are given a series of topics to discuss for at least an hour (over some good food and drink, naturally!). Here are a few ideas to get you started: what was your first job? Have you ever met anyone famous? What’s the last great book you read? Who is someone you really admire?
“Employees who love the culture and feel engaged at work are 87% less likely to leave.”
Switch up your office environment
Much like a shower or a long walk, a change of environment is scientifically proven to spark creativity and new ideas. If budget allows, take your team to a new environment for a day or two to discover a new place, learn some new things and discuss new ideas for the upcoming weeks and months. The choice of format is yours entirely: from booking a meeting room in a stylish new building, to planning a day out in a historic new city.
Organise a bake-off event at work
Let’s face it, no work activity is complete without cake! Divide your larger team into smaller teams, assign everyone a cake or baked good and let them get stuck in. If you don’t have anywhere at work to cook, give everyone an evening to make theirs and have a taste test morning with tea and coffee. A perfect way to try everyone’s baking and catch up with the team.
Host an office team sports day
Why not take it old school and organise a team sports day. Break everyone down into small teams of four and get competitive. Think egg and spoon races, a three-legged race and hula hooping. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of healthy competition?
Don’t underestimate the impact that team building activities can have on your employees. Think of creating an environment that you yourself would enjoy being a part of and we can guarantee that your team will make bringing success to your business a priority.
